IAG Research Centre
IAG Research Centre – Driving safety and security for over 20 years
The IAG Research Centre is the only physical research centre owned by a general insurance company in Australia. The IAG Research Centre’s main purpose is to research how emerging mobility technologies will affect operational and insurance risk in the future.
The Centre delivers risk insights and services to IAG, its brands and to the wider insurance industry. They provide expertise and insights that support IAG’s educational efforts to improve safety on Australian roads, as well as providing technical support and information for the smash repair industry.
The Centre also collaborates with industry bodies and universities to prepare and deal with the impacts of emerging technology that is changing our mobility needs and risks into the future.
Research is conducted for the IAG Group of insurance companies, including NRMA Insurance, SGIO, SGIC, CGU and Swann Insurance in Australia and NZI, State Insurance AMI in New Zealand.
IAG is the only Australian member of RCAR, an international association of automotive research centres, owned or operated by insurers or groups of insurers, whose primary goal is to support the RCAR’s purpose; ‘To reduce the human and economic costs of motor vehicle losses’. This is done through research into improved vehicle damage resistance, repairability, security, and safety.
IAG is the only Australasian insurance based member of the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). ANCAP is designed to give consumers an accurate guide to the level of occupant protection provided by different cars in serious front and side crashes.
